Since the introduction and development of residential sprinklers around the 1860's their attributes and advantages have been admired and utilised greatly.  Their ability to protect property by quickly smothering flames before extensive damage has been caused, had been until recently, seen as their prime directive.  Only recently with further development and refinement has their ability to protect life come to the fore.

With the increase in the numbers of domestic/residential fires and the reducing costs of mass produced materials and parts, it has now become possible to offer this form of fire protection to home owners and property managers alike.

Without stating the obvious, speed of response is the key to extinguishing any fire.  The ability to introduce water at an early stage of ignition can provide the vital seconds needed for people to escape a potentially serious situation.

It should be noted that these systems work hand in hand with detection systems, setting off sounders to alert residents of the danger.

Perhaps, one all too often ignored by-product of a fire is the amount of water used by the fire brigade in putting out the fire and the damage that it causes.  A residential sprinkler system uses a fraction of the amount of water any fire hose would discharge, and is confined to only the rooms where sufficient heat exists to set off one of these specially designed heads.

In conclusion, rather like some of the advances made by NASA during the race to the moon, technology designed for large commercial projects can now benefit us all in our daily lives.
