Fire Safety Order October 2006

This will require employers to appoint one or more employees to assist in ensuring compliance with the regulations (such as a fire warden).

The purpose of fire fighting equipment is clarified, in that it is there to enable a small fire to be attacked to prevent it spreading. Therefore, you will need to ensure there has been training on the correct use of fire fighting equipment.

Call us and ask about our Fire Wardens Training Course.

If you can, search the building first, it may be a false alarm. only dial 999 in an Emergency!

You should try to confirm FIRE before you call the Brigade.
2 False Alarms in a month, or 3 in 26 weeks is what the Brigade our now allowing. Staff must be trained in False Alarm detection and searching the building for signs of fire.

FIRE AWARENESS COURSE

The aim of this course is to teach and revise employees in fire prevention, spotting potential hazards, safe storage, evacuation procedures and the use of fire extinguishers to name but a few of the subjects. Also this course enables employers to fulfill their obligation to provide fire training under current fire legislation.

The course is approximately two hours long, starting inside with a talk including a video, then a short test. (If requested) then the course moves outside where the employees have the opportunity to tackle live fires in a controlled environment. (HANDS ON)

This course is normally run at the customer's premises. We will require an indoor space and a suitable open space if real fires are to be extinguished.

The course can take 20 trainees in one session; larger courses can be arranged, at an agreed cost. A certificate of attendance and a fact sheet will be issued to all trainees participating.

OTHER INFORMATION

We also run a company fire wardens/ fire marshals course, which can be held on site or at a separate venue, and is a half days training. All courses can be tailored to meet the requirements for your business or premises.

Reducing the risk factors:

The Fire Protection Association attributes three main causes to fires at work:
? they are started deliberately
? they occur because people are not alert to fire hazards
? they occur because people are careless of fire hazards

As people are central to all of these main causes then appropriate and effective awareness training must be your first line of defence. Devon & Cornwall Fire Protection Ltd offer a cost-effective fire safety training course to help you combat the main causes of fire at work... behaviour!

Fire Safety Training will help your employees to be more aware of:
? The causes of fire
? How they can help prevent fires
? What they should do in the event of a fire
? How to evacuate a building safely

This Fire Safety Training is ideal as a stand-alone refresher course, and for induction training for all new employees.
A WELL TRAINED WORKFORCE NOT ONLY REDUCES THE RISK OF FIRE BUT IN THE EVENT OF ONE, EMPLOYEES WILL RESPOND QUICKLY, EFFECTIVELY AND EFFICIENTLY IN ORDER TO MINIMISE DAMAGE AND DISRUPTION TO BUSINESS

We run two main types of training course, Fire Awareness, and Fire Wardens.

The Fire Awareness Course is 2 hours long and is perfect for your staff Fire Training.  It covers Legislation, Fire Evacuation, and Hands on Fire Fighting with Fire Extinguishers.  The Course is Certificated.  We try to make the training fun for everyone.

All course can be tailored to your staff and building requirements.  For Nursing and Residential Homes the staff are also taught search procedures.  We can even simulate smoke within the work place if requested.

Why is Fire Training Necessary?

Under Fire Legislation, management is required to ensure their staff are adequately trained in Fire Safety.  Such matters as Safe Escape, Protection of Property & Business, the Protection of Visitors & Public alike, in the event of a fire, must be included.  This is supported by Insurance requirements & other laws Governing Health & Safety referred to as 'Duty of Care'.  As from 1st December 1997, Fire Training was a mandatory requirement of the Fire Precautions (Workplace) Regulations 1997 and as amended 1st Dec 1999 (UK).

Legal Requirements
Health & Safety at Work Act 1974
The Management of Health & Safety at Work Regulations 1999
Fire Precautions (Workplace) Regulations 1997 as amended 1st December 1999 and now The Fire Safety Order Feb 2006
